HI there! Thanks for stopping by!

My name is Sara Wilkes and I’m the calligrapher behind Bright Lexicon. I’ve been doing calligraphy and hand lettering since 2017. I love highlighting words that have inspired me and sharing bright, colorful, affirming art.
A lot of it ends up being the words that I need to hear myself, and I think a lot of people resonate with that vulnerability.

A huge part of my practice is making goals and projects for myself. I’ve completed several year-long art projects including a year of making art every day, the Year of Beautiful Writing, and Sara Reads and Letters - lettering a quote from every book I read in 2021. In 2024 I created a greeting card every week! I also love sending mail art and I have a monthly art exchange with a fellow lettering artist that we’ve been doing since 2018.

I love trying new things and learning new skills, though you’ll probably find I gravitate most toward pointed pen and brush lettering. I hope you’ll stick around to see what I’m up to. And if you have any calligraphy needs, feel free to contact me!

Why Bright Lexicon?

I’ve always loved reading and words and calligraphy is a way that I can highlight those words that I love and provide encouragement for others. My business name is actually from Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery (love Anne Shirley!). The full quote is “There’s no such word as fail in my bright lexicon.” I read it and immediately though it would be a perfect name because I was embarking on a new challenge in my business venture, and also because of the illuminating power of words. I hope you enjoy my bright art and it brings you some joy on your journey.
